Aga Max

Chandlers Aga Fuel exclusively developed for WCF Chandlers to supply the best quality fuels to our customers.

The Benefits of Chandlers Aga Max

 ·        Lowers carbon and deposit build up

·        Stabilises the fuel

·        Inhibits sludge formation

·        Keeps the fuel ‘fresher’, for longer

·        Reduces service problems

·       Improves systems’ efficiency

In January 2008 an EU Directive came into force to lower the sulphur levels in heating oil and thus produce a more environmentally-friendly fuel. Kerosene (heating oil), works perfectly well for the majority of appliances which are boilers but due to the reduction of the sulphur levels in the new blend of kerosene oil range cookers have been found to "carbon up”. Chandlers Aga Max has an additive which has proven to prevent the carbon build-up; stabilise the fuel; inhibit sludge formation; keep the fuel ‘fresh’ for longer; increase the system’s efficiency – all of these benefits also reduce service problems.

Below is a frequently asked question section. However, if you have any further questions about Aga Max, please contact our sales team who will be happy to assist you. Your range cooker will be happy you made the switch!

Chandlers Aga Max Q & A’s

Q: How does Chandlers Aga Max work?
A: Chandlers Aga Max has special ingredients that help to prolong fuel shelf life and significantly decrease the coking tendency of the kerosene thus increasing the system efficiency

Q: Can I mix Chandlers Aga Max with the kerosene already in my tank?
A: Yes, they will be completely compatible. Depending upon how much regular kerosene is already in your tank, the full benefit of the Aga Max may not be achieved until the second fill-up

Q: I have one tank for the Aga and the boiler, can I use Chandlers Aga Max for both?
A: Yes, in fact this is preferable. The burner on an Aga is more sensitive to variations in fuel quality than is the pressure jet system on a boiler, so using the dedicated Aga Max will lead to fewer problems and similar benefits on both units.

Q: I’ve used Topanol & Dipetane in my kerosene previously. Is Chandlers Aga Max better than these?
A: Topanol is a diluted fuel antioxidant - that is, it contains generic active ingredients that inhibit a fuel’s ageing process. It is also toxic.

Dipetane is a solvent with a high treatment rate and is thought to impact only the gaseous emissions of the fuel not its stability or coking tendencies.

Chandlers Aga Max contains additives that have been screened and tested over a long period of time (specifically for use in a vaporizing burner), these additives are present in Chandlers Aga Max in concentrated quantities making the Aga Max much more cost effective than simply using the additives.

Q: I have a Rayburn can Chandlers Aga Max be used in it?
A: Aga is used as a generic term for any range-style cooker and boiler. This would include the Rayburn, Stanley or Esse and Chandlers Aga Max will work equally well in any of these ranges.

Q: If I use Chandlers Aga Max does this mean I don’t have to have my Aga serviced anymore?
A: No. It is always good practice to have any range or boiler serviced on a routine basis. Regular use of Chandlers Aga Max will mean that excessive servicing is eliminated and burner and combustion chamber cleaning is much easier.
Q: Can I use Chandlers Aga Max, Topanol and Dipetane all together to get a better performance?
A: There is no reason why the products should not be mixed but the combination will not provide any enhanced fuel performance therefore there is no reason to add all these.

Q: What are the key benefits of Chandlers Aga Max?
A: The tendency of Chandlers Aga Max to reduce carbon build-up leads to a much improved system efficiency by keeping both the burner and the heat transfer surfaces cleaner for longer. Additionally the life of the fuel is extended reducing the potential for solids build-up in the storage tank which could lead to fuel system blockages.

Q: Will there be any adverse effects to this additive in very cold or very hot temperatures?
A: Chandlers Aga Max is no different to any other fuel product in its reactions to extremes of temperature. In the UK however, the range of temperatures is such that few fuel problems will be experienced and using Chandlers Aga Max will certainly help to reduce the accelerated ageing that can be associated with prolonged high temperatures.

Q: I have read that Chandlers Aga Max works by preventing deposits and operating problems that can occur, but does it also instantaneously burn better in an existing clean system or have a higher energy content e.g. Calorific Value?
A: Chandlers Aga Max does not have a higher energy content than standard domestic kerosene. It will help to keep an already clean system clean and prevent carbon build-up and as a result (within the limits of design of the burner), will ensure that fuel combustion is as complete as possible further reducing smoke and solids build-up.

Q: Will Chandlers Aga Max be compatible with my boiler and do I need to consult my boiler engineer or boiler manufacturer first?
A: Chandlers Aga Max is perfectly compatible with all boiler systems and there is no need to consult with either the manufacturer or your service engineer. It has been extensively tested across all ranges and boiler systems.

Q: Will any warranties on my boiler and equipment be affected?
A: Any warranties on ranges and boilers will not be adversely affected by using Chandlers Aga Max – in fact most manufacturers and service engineers recognize the benefits of the additives.

Q: Can I extend my boiler service intervals if I use Chandlers Aga Max?
A: We cannot reasonably quantify this without knowing your service history and would always advocate routine boiler and range servicing. However, if you are seeing the need to have the boiler or range serviced more than twice per year, it would seem excessive and by using Chandlers Aga Max you should certainly see an increase in service intervals.

Q: How long does it take for Chandlers Aga Max to start providing the benefits?
A: Chandlers Aga Max will start to benefit the system immediately but, depending on the residual fuel quantity and quality in the storage tank, the benefits may be reduced until the second or even third delivery in some cases. On a recently maintained, clean system the positive impact will be readily noticed within 500 litres of Chandlers Aga Max use.

Q: Many technical folks believe in-service problems are dictated by a fuel’s ‘Char Value’ (IP 10 Method). Does Chandlers Aga Max have a lower Char Value?
A: Yes, one of the ways in which the Chandlers Aga Max works is by having a lower Char Value. The IP 10 method requires many tests on a fuel to arrive at a reliable result (the test is variable), but a Char Value in the region of 11.5 is not an unreasonable expectation.

Q: I have told my engineer about Chandlers Aga Max and he has some technical type questions that I cannot answer. Is there anyone we can talk to who can answer his questions?
A: By all means. Please refer technical enquiries to Dr. Bob Hall or Neil Ryding at FAST: Tel 01743 761415 or email. neil.ryding@fastexocet.co.uk.
