Operations Manager - WCF Chandlers

Reporting to: General Manager
Location: Grantham
Salary: £38,000 + Car Allowance + Pension

Overview

Monitor, manage and co-ordinate depot resources to ensure a continuous increase in operational productivity and improved quality of service provided.

The core responsibilities of this role are to ensure our team of drivers, working across 7 depots, are well managed and receive leadership, support and training to be successful in their role. The role also encompasses responsibility for ensuring offices and depots are safe and secure. This involves regular inspections of our depots and offices, working with our Health & Safety and Facilities Manager to ensure standards are maintained and compliance achieved with relevant standards.

This role will also represent the Operations function as an active member of the Management Team.


Staff Management
  • Support and assist your team to consistently deliver high levels of performance and customer service in accordance with WCF guiding principles
  • Line management responsibility for all drivers across 7 regional depots (Grantham, Corby, Spalding, Lincoln, North Killingholme, Pocklington and Beeston (opening 2019))
  • Define and support the development of drivers by identifying and sharing best practice
  • Ensure smooth running of all functions within the depot
  • Recruit drivers, including pre-employment checks
  • Perform annual driver licence checks
  • Ensure annual PDP refresher training is delivered to all drivers
  • Undertake performance management in accordance with WCF policies and procedures
  • Work closely with Customer Services to investigate incidents to resolve swiftly and implement learning
  • Ensure daily checks conducted at each depot by designated driver
  • Investigate tachograph breaches and taking appropriate action to reduce number of recorded breaches
  • Administer the driver bonus scheme
  • Report on driver and depot performance according to company requirements
Health & Safety
  • Supported by the Health & Safety Manager, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental and employment legislation to ensure defined standards are met and best practice adhered to
  • Complete Permits to Work with 3rd party contractors
  • Complete annual review of risk assessments
  • Ensure adherence to safe systems of work
  • Perform monthly vehicle checks
  • Hold monthly safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Report vehicle defects
  • Complete monthly site checklists
  • Co-ordinate with Facilities Management team to facilitate contractor access and works to offices and depots
  • Ensure site security is maintained and CCTV systems are effectively managed and monitored by 3rd party contractor
You should possess the following:
  • Ability to investigate incidents and provide recommendations to prevent re-occurrence
  • Proven track record of implementing and maintaining safe systems of work
  • Proven track record of line/resource management experience in a transport environment
  • Proven ability to plan in a rapidly fast changing environment
  • Experience supporting and implementing capital projects
  • Ability to lead and coach a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence
  • Clear communicator both verbally and non-verbally
