As the colder months approach, it’s important for heating oil users to plan ahead to ensure their heating systems are ready for the winter. Helping UK homes prepare for winter this year, the UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA) has compiled a checklist of five ways people who use heating oil can get ready for the colder weather, stay warm and buy efficiently.
Regularly check your heating oil boiler and tank to ensure they are working efficiently and not wasting heating oil. It’s recommended to have your oil heating system serviced annually by a local OFTEC engineer. Visit OFTEC’s website to find a registered technician near you.
Additionally, as a UKIFDA heating oil distributor, we offer plenty of helpful advice on on our websites about ordering and delivery, tips for taking care of your heating system, and tank management.
To avoid weather-related delays and higher costs, it’s best to book your heating oil delivery in advance. During the winter months, emergency deliveries may not always be possible, so order your oil early enough before your oil level becomes too low. It's easy to get through more oil than you had expected, particularly if there's a period of cold weather and that is why we recommend checking your tank level on a regular basis and ordering in advance.
In the event, that you do run out we will strive to deliver to you as soon as we possibly can. You're also able to collect smaller containers of oil from our Grantham depot should you have a heating oil run out.
If you are 75+ or live with someone who is, please sign up for the free Cold Weather Priority (CWP) scheme set up by UKIFDA.
The CWP scheme helps to identify customers who are 75+ so UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA) member heating oil suppliers know who may be at risk.
The UKIFDA distributors can then take proactive steps to prioritise fuel deliveries to these customers, particularly during times of fuel shortages or extreme cold weather.
This potentially life-saving initiative costs heating oil customers absolutely nothing and you only need to ask your local UKIFDA member to be included in CWP.

For those heating oil users that may be vulnerable or are struggling to pay for their oil, there are a number of government guides packed with useful information and helpful guidance on how to access support where needed.
Contact your local WCF Chandlers UKIFDA heating oil distributor to check the oil price and find out about their payment and service options.
UKIFDA recommends you contact the distributor you use most regularly to discuss the price options available at the time of your order.
